Day 14. 9.18.2013. 0 miles from Zion to Zion

Today we took an "off" day, at least from biking. We bike all over Zion National Park, including the famous angels landing hike. Uncle Vern had highly recommended that bike to me, so we have it a shot.

Back track a bit... We woke up and for the first time without having to pack anything up. What a relief. Right away we went to the post office to pick up a magnificent care package made from home by Mrs. Klevorn. Beeeeef jerky :) and dried fruits from my mom as well. Sweeeeet!

Then we walked in to an all you can eat breakfast buffet. It's never good news for a buffet when two cross country bikers walk in. We ate and ate and ate. The breakfast was amazing and actually a very high class breakfast buffet (spotted dog cafe). We will be hard pressed to have more And better food than we had this morning. After these events in the day we began hiking.

Angels landing blew us away. It was a home where down both sides of you you could see thousands of feet straight down. It really messed with my depth perception every time I would look down, or up for that matter. A park lady said it was a wonder that NPS let that trail be built, and now I see why. There were chains drilled into the mountain to hold on to so that you wouldn't fall. It was an epic hike. Here are some pics as we hiked, not biked, from the bottom of the canyon to the top.

Don't fall off!
Almost to the top. Photo magician.

The ultimate view!

Panorama ultimate view!

3000 feet down (pretty sure)

Going to head back down :(

After angels landing we hiked to the emerald pools, and the narrows. Those hikes were cool as well but could not compare to angels landing.

We took Josh's bike in to the bike shop to make sure everything was alright, and to get a few more spokes, and anything else that could break down for that matter.

I am now going to write some postcards to family and friends.

Zion blew us away. Completely. I could not believe the majestic views and the unrealistic heights of the canyon walls. It amazes me that this is a place on earth.

I am thankful for the rest day, and that God blessed us with the opportunity to experience Zion.

  1. I find your journaling and pictures so interesting and inspiring; and I sort of wish I was younger and in shape to do the same :) !
