The climb slapped me in the face, and everywhere else. 27 degree inclines were not going to work on my bike with only a double crankset up front. It was 8 miles and 4000 feet in elevation climb. I had to walk about 3.5 miles of it. Josh was a beast with his awesome touring bike and made it all the way up by bike!! I couldn't believe it. For any other cyclists out there Sonora Pass is insane. But we made it in about 3 hours, and then bombed down the mountain into Bridgeport. We had to stealth camp 15 miles west of Bridgeport because it was pitch black outside.
Today we climbed out of Bridgeport, after an amazing amazing amazing brunch of breakfast burritos at the Burger Barn. Then we flew down the mountain side again, around Mono Lake and into Lee Vining where I am typing this blog. 40 miles down today, we hope to make it 45 more miles to Benton Hot Springs wehre every campsite has its own natural hot tub!
We might be able to get another post up there, but service is going to be extremely spotty for the next week at least! We will still write and then upload later.
just out of pinecrest
You both are AWESOME!!! I'm sorry I won't get to see you - but you guys Rock! Yes, Sonora Pass is a killer - but what a descent! And at least it levels out at the top. Lots of water (no OJ!! :)) through Nevada. And remember walking is called Cross Training! (You won't have another pass like Sonora.....)
ReplyDeleteBest to you both!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alison
thank you SO MUCH for all your help, it was a bummer we couldn't cross paths this time around, but we will definitely make the connection sometime :)
